It is also known as the Batangas Basilica or the Batangas Cathedral. The church is a popular tourist destination due to its unique architecture and rich history. History The original church was built in 1581, shortly after the Spanish colonized the Philippines. It was made of nipa and bamboo and was dedicated to Saint James the Apostle.
